At Marmi Faedo, we are firmly convinced that hard limestone extraction must be conducted in full respect of the environment. This philosophy underpins our innovative approach, which we have named ‘expansion in reduction’: a model that enables us to expand mining operations in a controlled and sustainable manner, while adhering to a precise land restoration plan. The essence of this method is to intervene only where necessary, continually reducing the environmental impact of our activities.
Every time we complete an extraction cycle in a section of the quarry, we immediately begin restoring the area, following a rigorous natural rehabilitation process. This step is not merely a regulatory obligation but a deliberate choice aimed at restoring the landscape to its original integrity. We carry out grass seeding and plant indigenous tree species such as black hornbeam, oak, and dogwood—varieties native to our region that help re-establish the ecological balance of the area. Through this process, we reintroduce the original plant species, supporting biodiversity and facilitating the harmonious reintegration of the worked area into its natural surroundings.
Our goal is not only to minimise the impact of mining activities but also to promote an environmental management model that can serve as a benchmark for the industry. With ‘expansion in reduction’, we aim to combine business growth with environmental protection, proving that it is possible to grow without compromising the ecosystem.
This model enables us not only to preserve the landscape but also to enhance it, turning every operation into a contribution to maintaining and enriching the natural beauty of our region. We are particularly proud of the honey produced by the beehives placed in rehabilitated areas of the quarry. The presence of bees, which are highly sensitive to vibrations and noise, is a tangible sign of the healthiness and genuine recovery of the area.
